North India is set to face intense summer conditions as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather update warning of heatwave conditions across Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and nearby regions over the next few days. The latest IMD bulletin dated 20 April 2026 says temperatures are likely to rise further, with hot winds and above-normal daytime heat expected across the plains.
According to the IMD, West Uttar Pradesh may see heatwave conditions from 20 to 25 April, while scattered pockets of East Uttar Pradesh may face heatwave conditions on 23 April. Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh are also under heatwave alert during the same period. This means residents should prepare for harsh afternoon heat, dehydration risk, and discomfort during outdoor activities.
Delhi Weather Update: 41°C to 44°C Forecast
The IMD has specifically forecast 41°C to 43°C in Delhi on 20 and 21 April, with temperatures likely to climb to 42°C to 44°C on 22 and 23 April. Skies are expected to remain mainly clear, which can increase daytime heating. Warm nights are also likely, reducing relief after sunset.
Strong surface winds may blow during afternoon hours, but they may not significantly reduce the heat. People in Delhi-NCR are advised to avoid direct sun exposure between noon and late afternoon.
Uttar Pradesh Weather: Hot Days Ahead
Across Uttar Pradesh, several districts are expected to witness soaring temperatures and dry weather. The IMD noted that many places in the state already recorded temperatures in the 40°C to 45°C range, and conditions may stay severe for the next few days. Both western and eastern parts of the state should remain cautious, especially children, senior citizens, and outdoor workers.
People are advised to drink enough water, wear light cotton clothes, avoid strenuous activity during peak heat hours, and follow official local forecasts for district-wise updates. With North India entering a strong heat phase, the coming days could be among the hottest so far this season.
